Set
The set was very minimalistic in Commedia dell' Arte performances. They were performed outdoors; it was rare for a troop to perform in a theatre. Performances were usually in the city, or at a market place. The set was brought with the actors on horse drawn carts. The stages were built up so that the entire audience could see the action.
One common setting was three houses, or entrances representing three living situations. Each family would have a different house to enter and exit from, which may change throughout the scenarios. Sometimes there were signs that said 'to town' or 'out of town and beyond'.
