- Commedia dell' Arte translates to Comedy of the profession.
- The ideas began formulating, and the characters began in the 14th century, and continued until the 18th century, but was most prominent in the 16th and 17th century.
- Commedia went to the rest of Europe in the 16th century. From there it picked up a French influence.
- There were several great companies, the most known being the Gelosi.
- Performances themes consisted of love, lust, jealousy, old age, and money.
- The original form is no longer common, but the form of Commedia has been developed to work with our modern society.
